What is a Circular Supply Chain?

In this age of recycling, reuse, reduce, and repurpose – a new supply chain model has emerged called the Circular Supply Chain. The traditional linear supply chain of “take – make – dispose” has seen backlash from environmentally conscious consumers and proven unsustainable. The circular supply chain, focusing on waste elimination, contributes to an overall circular economy. This economy centers on sustainability and the reduction of waste.

The sustainability of the Circular Supply Chain is essential to corporations and consumers. Companies can address their carbon footprint, renewable energy sources, and reverse logistics programs by transitioning to this new supply chain. The Circular Supply Chain is a fairly new concept, and further study and research need to be conducted in areas such as biodegradable packaging and drivers / barriers. However, it is already being touted as the preference over the linear supply chain.
