Vessel Manifest Confidentiality
Did you know that anyone can see where a company is shipping to and shipping from? All they need is access to PIERS (Port Import/Export Reporting Service) data and your company could have a potential IPR (intellectual property rights) issue on your hands. Don’t fret! Customs and Border Protection came out with an easy online way to keep your ocean shipments confidential. You can even do multiple Tax Id’s at the same time.
A company should review all vessel manifests, bills of ladings, Seaway bills and other transportation documents to ensure that they are listing all the ways in which their shippers are listing your companies name on the manifests.
