Mobile Apps in Logistics

Recently, we have seen a large increase in the usage of mobile apps in the Logistics world. We are seeing this in almost every step of the supply chain such as inventory management, trucking, site management, etc. Companies are using mobile apps to do a number of things that either couldn’t be done before or were done in an archaic fashion. We’re going to look at what some of these benefits are and when/where these helpful tools can be used.

Perhaps the most obvious benefit to mobile apps in Logistics is visibility. Now more than ever customers are demanding to know exactly where their freight is. In many areas of Logistics, it’s no longer acceptable to provide a daily update. People are looking for real-time updates of exactly where their cargo is and with today’s advancements in technology, it is completely possible. Not only is it possible but it can be quite literally at your fingertips.

Another significant benefit is being able to do your job on the go. Lots of companies that we work with are on construction sites, warehouses, and other places nowhere near a laptop. A mobile app lets them understand what material is in their possession and makes them much more effective at their job. For example, when we ship material to a client site, and a receiving manager on site is required to scan this material with their mobile device. All parties instantly know that this part has been successfully delivered and is right where it needs to be. It’s exciting to think about all the possibilities technology and mobile apps can offer in our business sector.
