Malaysia Lock Down Affects Singapore

On March 16th, 2020, the Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced that Malaysia would initiate a movement control order due to the global COVID 19 pandemic, starting from March 18th to March 31st, prohibiting all Malaysians from traveling overseas. Those who return from overseas will have to go through health checks and go on a 14-day self-quarantine.
Hence, thousands of Malaysians workers who commute to Singapore daily are rushing to cross the Singapore-Malaysia land border before a lockdown took effect the next day.
Meanwhile, the Singapore government introduced a housing subsidy to help keep some Malaysian workers on the job during the lockdown. However, the sudden announcement has affected many manufacturers and company workforce numbers.
When an inbound shipment arrives at the Singapore port or terminal, the clearance process will take longer than usual, and container unstuffing expects a 2-3 day delay due to a lack of workforce resources. Due to this, we will explain the current situation to our customers and keep them posted on the latest COVID-19 update.
When we countdown on reopening the border between Malaysia and Singapore, which slated to end on March 31st, but unfortunately, Malaysia PM extended the MCO to April 14th following the rising number of new coronavirus cases in the country.
Now Malaysia hopes to soon resume to usual work.
