Logistics for The World Cup

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is being hosted across 16 stadiums and multiple venues from Thursday, June 11, 2026, through Sunday, July 19, 2026, in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Logistics plays a critical role in the tournament, and FIFA has dedicated resources outlining how materials, equipment, and event infrastructure are moved throughout the competition. According to FIFA, “Every aspect, from transporting team equipment to setting up event infrastructure, must be carefully planned to ensure everything arrives on time and in perfect condition.” To support these operations, FIFA relies on Rock-it Cargo, a third-party logistics company with experience managing freight for major live events and entertainment productions. According to Rock-it Cargo’s history page, the company originally built its reputation by moving equipment for major music acts such as Led Zeppelin, Queen, and Bruce Springsteen and continued their event logistics throughout decades.

The World Cup is one of the largest global sporting events, not only because of its viewership, but also because of the scale of freight and supply movement required to support it. Food, merchandise, stadium materials, equipment, and operational supplies must move across multiple countries and host cities throughout the tournament. To manage this, FIFA established their centralized Logistics Coordination Centre to help oversee logistics-related operations. FIFA’s logistics webpage also directs client groups to Rock-it Cargo’s resources, including tools such as a flight tracker, currency converter, time zone converter, freight guides, chargeable weight calculator, and carbon offset calculator. These tools support planning across air freight, road transportation, customs coordination, and venue delivery.

Food and beverage logistics are especially important because each stadium must be supplied before and during match days. This creates demand for refrigerated trucking, warehousing, and local distribution. Looking ahead to the remaining World Cup schedule, reefer freight markets may be impacted in some host regions due to increased demand for food and beverage shipments. DAT’s reefer market data shows that refrigerated freight rates has shifted quickly based on location, produce demand, food consumption, and available truck capacity. For example, DAT reported strong reefer activity in markets such as Miami and New York as both are World Cup host locations prior to the event. Additionally, seasonal food demand, including July being National Hot Dog Month and stadiums famously serving hot dogs, can also place additional pressure on refrigerated freight capacity in major consumer markets (New York and Los Angeles reportedly eat $212 million in hot dogs combined yearly according to DAT). To DAT, each city hosting this year’s World Cup has experienced an increase in shipping rates.

Overall, the World Cup demonstrates how large-scale sporting events depend on more than stadium operations. Behind the matches is a complex logistics network involving road freight, air freight, customs support, warehousing, food distribution, and time-sensitive delivery planning. FIFA’s partnership with Rock-it Cargo shows how specialized event logistics providers help manage the movement of goods across a tournament of this size and geographic scale.
