Latest on Pharmaceutical Tariffs
On Tuesday, July 22, Donald Trump said he plans to impose new tariffs on imported generic medicines. The proposed tariffs would not take effect for two years. After that, they would increase to 100% for one year and then to 200% the following year. The goal is to give manufacturers time to invest in U.S. production.
In addition, there are previously announced Section 232 pharmaceutical tariffs that are scheduled to begin soon.
Patented Pharmaceuticals
On April 2, 2026, President Trump issued a proclamation imposing Section 232 duties on imports of patented pharmaceuticals, biologics, and associated ingredients into the United States.
The annexes to the proclamation are available here: https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Pharmaceuticals-Imports-ANNEXES-I-II-III-IV.pdf
