Last Mile Deliveries
In this era of online shopping, consumers are wanting their deliveries faster and faster. Companies that are selling goods directly to individual consumers simply cannot be competitive unless they can deliver said goods in a timely fashion. Companies like FedEx, UPS, and now Amazon can ship almost anywhere in the US overnight.
Last Mile Delivery by definition is the final leg of a shipment (from destination airport/warehouse to final destination, which is usually a personal residence.) This has become a key part in the transportation of goods, but is also the most expensive to the seller. There are several challenges that come with delivering goods in a timely fashion such as location (rural or urban), frequency of shipments, etc. Companies can combat this through anticipatory shipping, improved traceability, independent drivers, etc. As people continue to order more and more goods online, companies will continue to have to look for new and innovative ways to deliver while still remaining profitable.
