Set Your Reminders! – Nebraska Property Valuation Protest Deadline Approaching

The Nebraska Department of Revenue has issued a reminder to property owners that valuation protests must be filed on or before June 30, 2022. If there was an alteration in the assessed valuation of a real property parcel from the 2021 to the 2022 assessed value, the county assessor was required to send a notice of valuation change to the property owner on or before June 1, 2022.  If a property owner disagrees with the assessed value, a protest may be filed with the county board of equalization. The valuation protest may be filed in person or by mail with the county clerk in the county where the property is located.

It’s Not About Where You Come From, It’s About Where You’re Headed – CO Sales Tax Sourcing

The Colorado Department of Revenue (CDOR) has updated guidance on the 2022 transition to destination sourcing for sales tax purposes. Sales tax collection changed in 2019 to destination sourcing, which means that sales tax is calculated based on the address where the product or service is delivered to the consumer, not on the taxpayer's business location. Businesses with over $100,000 in sales should currently be using destination sourcing. A small business exception is extended until October 1, 2022, meaning that all businesses located within Colorado, regardless of their sales volume, must begin complying with the destination sourcing rules. The CDOR is not authorized to grant exceptions to this statutory requirement.

Learning is Enriching – Texas Cloud-Based Training

The Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts ruled that a cloud-based software program used by nursing and other professional healthcare students during assigned courses at accredited universities and colleges is an educational service and is not subject to tax. Since the program is accessed via the internet, the program is not considered a taxable information services or any other taxable services reference in Texas statutes. Additionally, although the program has elements of data processing, the program is not a taxable data processing service.
