Lift Your Wallet – New York Car Lift Installations are Subject to Tax

The Division of Taxation’s determination has been held up by an administrative law judge that a New York taxpayer’s car lift installations are not capital improvements to property. The taxpayer in question designs, installs, repairs, and maintains car lifts. Since the taxpayer was unable to prove the lifts add value to real property or extend the life of real property, the installation of the car lifts are not exempt capital improvements. Therefore, sales tax is due on the receipts from the installation of the car lifts.

 

Save That Fuel —Florida Motor Fuel Tax Relief

From Saturday, October 1, 2022, through Monday, October 31, 2022, the total combined tax rate on motor fuel in Florida will be reduced by 25.3¢ per gallon. The Florida Department of Revenue has announced that this rate will be directed towards local government and mass transit system operators, retail dealers, terminal suppliers, and wholesalers and importers. The reduced tax rate applies to:

• all gasoline products
• any product blended with gasoline
• any fuel placed in the storage supply tank of a gasoline-powered motor vehicle

 

Up, Up, and Away Goes the Sales Tax 

In Kansas, amusement admissions are generally taxable. However, as declared by a private letter ruling in 2010, by the Kansas Department of Revenue, untethered hot air balloon rides are not taxable. On the contrary, if the hot air balloon is tethered to the ground, the amusement tax applies.
