File Your Indiana Property Tax Returns Online this Year
The State of Indiana announced January 7, 2021 that they would be launching a new online portal (“PPOP-IN”) for completing and submitting business personal property tax filings for 2021. As of February 4, 2021, the Portal is live and accepting online filings.
Who is impacted?
Taxpayers: Any business or farmer that owns or holds personal property in Indiana.
Authorized Agents: Individuals responsible for filing a business personal property filing on behalf of a business or farmer.
County/Township Assessors: PPOP-IN routes the filing to appropriate assessor. Assessor(s) notified of submission via daily email.
What are the benefits?
The new, 24/7, self-service PPOP-IN portal will allow taxpayers and authorized agents to file Forms 102, 103-Short, 103-Long, 103-N, 103-O, 104, and 106 online. Taxpayers will also have the ability to upload additional personal property forms and any necessary supporting documentation. It will allow taxpayers and their authorized agents to submit and review personal property tax filings in a single user-friendly web-based environment.
Account Setup
Indiana's Personal Property Online Portal (PPOP-IN) requires logging in with an Access Indiana account. After obtaining an Access Indiana account and registering for PPOP-IN, you may use the PPOP-IN portal to file your business personal property taxes online. A taxpayer account should be set-up under a business name in PPOP-IN. When setting up the account in PPOP-IN, the first name field should be used for the name of the business and the last name field should be used to enter the entity type for the business (LLC, Inc). If a business is operating different subsidiaries, each subsidiary will need a separate taxpayer account. If a business is operating different locations under one taxpayer, a single taxpayer account would be needed for the business. Any individual submitting a filing on behalf of a business (taxpayer), should create an authorized agent account. Individuals should register under their personal name and email address in PPOP-IN. Authorized Agents can be a business employee, an accountant, tax preparer, etc. Agents will supply the taxpayers with their agent code which will allow the accounts to be linked and the agents to be able to file on behalf of the business.
Important Notes
The PPOP-IN system only supports Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge browsers at this time. Taxpayers have until Monday, May 17, 2021, to file their business personal property filings either online at https://ppopin.in.gov or by the traditional paper forms.

Tips for the Taxpayer
In a time where so many are still in work from home situations, this portal could provide a welcome relief to many taxpayers. The ability to print, physically sign, and mail property returns may not be a possibility like in previous years. This could also save both the business and the many counties within the state funds on preparing and processing the returns filed. This would be a great time to review your processes in place and make the shift towards electronic filing for business property returns.
