Coronavirus Update - September 22
Allyn International is committed to providing you with the latest updates during this very fluid and everchanging period. Our goal with the information provided below is to give you at a high-level, a current overview of the most heavily impacted regions.
Global Updates
- Ocean carriers were notified by Chinese and US government agencies that they are closely monitoring capacity and freight rates. Both governments believe there is a potential for anti-competitive activity to occur resulting in sky-high rates.
- Countries throughout Europe are seeing spikes in new COVID-19 infections and governments throughout the region are imposing virus-related restrictions similar to those seen 3 to 4 months ago. There is currently little to no impact on the movement of cargo.
The following tables and chart will provide the current cargo transport operational status and capacity levels for heavily affected countries.
- Limited capacity from Australia to the Americas, Asia Pacific and Europe. Minor container shortages.
- Capacity is available from Japan and UAE
- Capacity is low from South Korea to Europe, Asia Pacific, Middle East, Africa and the Americas. Major container shortages.
- Capacity is very low from India to APAC, Europe, the Middle East and the US. Major container shortages.
- Capacity is low from Brazil across all trade lanes. Moderate container shortages.
- Capacity is available from Singapore across all trade lanes except the Americas, where capacity is tight. Minor to medium container shortages.
United States of America Domestic Trucking Overview – Updated 09.22.2020
- Spot load posting jumped 23% last week, 67% higher than the same week last year and 96% above the 5-year average.
- The dry van spot rate is currently $2.38 per mile, while flatbed and reefer spot rates are $2.39 and $2.58 respectively.
