Coronavirus Update - October 13

The European Union announced new travel measures and released a color-coded map to designate the varying scale of outbreaks throughout Europe. Each member state can choose to implement the EU’s guidelines or choose their own based on their own analysis.
Over the past week, the Czech Republic reported more cases per capita than any other European nation and have decided to close schools, theaters, cinemas, and zoos beginning tomorrow. Restaurants and bars will be restricted to takeout. Italy, Spain, and France are also seeing a resurgence in COVID infections and while total lockdowns are not currently on the table, they are reinstating restrictions on gatherings and social events.
The following tables will provide the current cargo transport operational status and capacity levels for heavily affected countries.

- Limited capacity from Australia to the Americas, Asia Pacific, and Europe. Minor container shortages.
- Capacity is available from Japan and UAE
- Capacity is low from South Korea to Europe, Asia Pacific, Middle East, Africa, and the Americas. Major container shortages.
- Capacity is very low from India to APAC, Europe, the Middle East, and the US. Major container shortages.
- Capacity is low from Brazil across all trade lanes. Moderate container shortages.
- Capacity is available from Singapore across all trade lanes except the Americas, where capacity is tight. Minor to medium container shortages.
United States of America Domestic Trucking Overview – Updated 10.13.2020
- The total US freight market continues its upward trajectory and overall spot load volumes reach record highs. Dry van loads increased 11%, refrigerated jumped 9% while flatbed spot load volumes rose only 2%.
- The dry van spot rate is currently $2.44 (-1% week over week) per mile, while flatbed and reefer spot rates are $2.47 (+1% week over week) and $2.60 (+1% week over week) respectively.
