Coronavirus Update - May 19

Americas

  • Michigan, Illinois, New Jersey and Delaware have not yet lifted any stay-at-home orders; all other US States have started to ease restrictions regionally, statewide or have plans in place to do so soon.
  • Brazil remains the Latin American COVID-19 hotspot and currently has the third most confirmed cases worldwide. Sao Paulo officials are strongly recommending citizens to stay at home.

United States – 1,510,988 confirmed cases, 283,178 (19%) recovered, 90,432 deaths

Brazil – 257,396 confirmed cases, 100,459 (39%) recovered, 16,941 deaths 

EMEA

  • Italy extended their requirement of truck drivers to register with the Italian Health Service to June 14.
  • The Bosnia / Croatia border is currently experiencing delays of up to 5 hours due to reduced customs staff.
  • Ireland has started to lift restrictions which allows construction workers and many other industries return to work.
  • Romania reduced their “State of Emergency” status to “State of Alert”.
  • UAE extended their nightly curfew to now begin at 8 p.m. instead of 10 p.m. after reporting an increase in COVID-19 cases.

Russia – 299,941 confirmed cases, 76,130 (25%) recovered, 2,837 deaths 
United Kingdom – 247,709 confirmed cases, 1,090 (0.4%) recovered, 34,876 deaths
Spain – 231,606 confirmed cases, 150,376 (65%) recovered, 27,709 deaths 
Italy – 225,886 confirmed cases, 112,541 (50%) recovered, 32,007 deaths 
France – 180,051 confirmed cases, 61,843 (34%) recovered, 28,242 deaths
Germany – 177,289 confirmed cases, 155,681 (88%) recovered, 8,067 deaths
Turkey – 150,593 confirmed cases, 111,577 (74%) recovered, 4,171 deaths 

APAC

  • India released new lockdown guidelines; each State and UTs will be categorized as Red, Orange or Green. Each designation carries variations of lockdown measures and will be dependent on the region’s COVID-19 infection and recovery rate.

China – 84,063 confirmed cases, 79,310 (94%) recovered, 4,638 deaths

* Chicago, Denver, Atlanta and New York City airports are operational for cargo, but staffing reductions are impacting efficiency. No freighters are flying in Denver as a result of state government restrictions. Los Angeles and San Diego operating with restricted operations, cargo movement impacted.
** Restricted operations in India are impacting cargo flights; freighters are operating with reduced capacity.  Customs of non-essential goods have resumed subject to availability of Custom’s officers.

United States of America Domestic Trucking Overview – Updated 05.19.2020 

The US total truck spot market had it’s biggest jump since COVID-19 shut down the country. For four weeks straight load availability has increased each week and volumes are now about 75% of the five-year average and 82% of the volume in the same week last year.  

  • Rates within most US markets are currently at normal or below normal levels however areas that may see an increase are:
    • Loads with an origin of Oregon, Montana and South Dakota
    • Loads with a destination of Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Arizona

The chart below displays the total US truck total spot load availability including the refrigerated, dry van and flat bed trucking segments.  

The map below shows each US state’s current operational status.
