Coronavirus Update - March 20

Allyn International is committed to providing you with the latest and most accurate updates during this very fluid and everchanging period. Different countries and different states/provinces within those countries are adopting policies regarding their response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our goal with the information provided below, is to give you, at a high-level, the current state of the most heavily impacted regions.

International passenger airlines are drastically reducing the number of flights, ultimately resulting in a huge drop in cargo capacity and a substantial increase in price per kilo. Domestic passenger airlines are also grounding aircraft; however, the cancellation rate is occurring at a slower pace than international operations. Freight only aircraft, although operating in
most regions, does not have the capacity to handle their typical cargo needs and the cargo needs that normally would travel by passenger aircraft.

The COVID-19 pandemic is also causing disruptions to ocean transport. Major ports throughout the world are fully operational but container shortages and blank sailings have resulted in cargo backlogs and additional storage and retainer fees.

EMEA

  • Europe has become the new epicenter of the pandemic
  • Wait times are critical at the Germany/Poland border
  • Overall decrease in export volumes but imports remain stable
  • Italy remains the most affected country within Europe. Spain (19,980 confirmed cases), Iran (19,644 confirmed cases) and Germany (16,290 confirmed cases) are all reporting an increase in cases this past week and are taking cautionary measures to reduce the spread of the virus.

  • The Malaysian government is restricting truck movement from Thailand and Singapore. At this time, food and medical transportation are the only exceptions. Effective until March 31.
  • Vietnam/Cambodia and Vietnam/Laos borders remain closed until further notice. Road transport available between China and Vietnam.
  • Drivers delivering to Singapore from China are required to quarantine for 14-days upon return resulting in a reduction of driver willingness to cross the border.
  • India is expecting a supply-chain disruption to exports in the near future. While the current number of confirmed cases is relatively low, the Indian government is taking precautions to curb the outbreak.

China

  • 81,102 confirmed cases (0.2% increase since Monday), 71,266 recovered, 3,253 deaths
