Coronavirus Update - March 18

Allyn International is committed to providing you with the latest and most accurate updates during this very fluid and everchanging period. Different countries and different states/provinces within those countries are adopting policies regarding their response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our goal with the information provided below, is to give you, at a high-level,
the current state of the most heavily impacted regions.

At this time, the most effected international transport mode continues to be air. As a result of passenger flight cancellations and reductions cargo capacity has been greatly reduced. Reduced capacity and high-demand for the remaining space has resulted in a substantial increase in shipping costs.

APAC

  • The Malaysian government is restricting truck movement from Thailand and Singapore. At this time, food transportation is the only exception. Effective March 18 – March 31.
  • In an effort to meet deadlines, Ocean to air mode switches are adding to the air freight capacity shortages.

China

  • 81,102 confirmed cases (0.1% increase since Monday), 69,755 recovered, 3,241 deaths
  • Imports to China are being delayed 1-3 days and exports are delayed 2-4 days.
  • Freight operations are slowing returning to a normal schedule.

South Korea

  • 8,413 confirmed cases (3.1% increase since Monday), 1,540 recovered, 84 deaths
  • Airports are operating normally, however many passenger flights have been cancelled.

EMEA

  • European Union member countries as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland have closed their external borders to non-essential travel for 30 days. Movement within the EU is still permitted, and the travel restrictions do not apply to medical staff, medicines or goods.
  • Lufthansa, Air France-KLM, Franco-Dutch and Ryanair have all reduced their capacities by 70 percent or more
  • Air capacity shortage
  • Decrease in export volumes but imports are remaining stable.

Italy

  • 24,747 confirmed cases (44% increase since Monday), 4,025 recovered, 2,978 deaths


Iran

  • 17,361 confirmed cases (25% increase since Monday), 5,389 recovered, 1,135 deaths

Spain

  • 13,910 confirmed cases (48% increase since Monday), 1,081 recovered, 623 deaths

Germany

  • 11,302 confirmed cases (58% increase since Monday), 105 recovered, 28 deaths

Americas

United States

  • 7,323 confirmed cases (92% increase since Monday), Number recovered not available, 115 deaths
  • Air cargo capacity is expected to worsen in the next week
  • Driver hour limits have been lifted for emergency supply transport
  • Individual states are altering their precautions daily, however no major impact to domestic cargo has been felt yet.

Air Cargo Transport – Updated 03.18.2020

* Wuhan airport has reopened. Flights will resume, at earliest, the end of March.
** Hefei airport is operational however passenger flights are still suspended. No impact to import, export, or custom
clearances.

Ocean Transport –Updated 03.18.2020

* The Hubei province (including Wuhan) ocean port continues its’ suspension of all transportation

  • Equipment shortages in the EU and NAM
  • Booking lead time for backhaul trade is around 4 to 5 weeks within the EMEA region

Road and Rail Transport – Updated 03.18.2020

  • All highways in China are toll-free until the end of June
