Coronavirus Update - June 30

Allyn International is committed to providing you with the latest updates during this very fluid and ever-changing period. Our goal with the information provided below is to give you at a high-level, a current overview of the most heavily impacted regions.  

Many countries are seeing a second-wave of COVID-19 infections. While it doesn’t appear full lockdowns will occur at this point, increased social distancing measures are being reintroduced in heavily affected regions. It is important to continue to secure your transport needs as soon as possible including confirmation from your carriers.  

Global Air Updates

  • Etihad Cargo added 22 weekly flights to five new destinations in Europe, Asia, the US and the Middle East.
  • DHL Global Forwarding added a twice-weekly charter service from Chitose, Japan to Hong Kong.
  • Lufthansa is resuming passenger flights into China this week.
  • United Airlines is resuming a twice-weekly route from San Francisco to Shanghai via Seoul beginning July 8.

Global Ocean Updates 

  • Two dozen blank sailings are scheduled for July and August creating capacity shortages and spot rate increases globally.
  • To avoid paying the Suez Canal fee, some carriers are rerouting vessels around the Cape of Good Hope adding 5 – 7 days of transit time.
  • Peak Season surcharges of $200-$350 per container continue to be charged by carriers.

Global Road Transport Updates

  • Spain has ended its “State of Alarm” and has opened its road borders to travelers without requiring a 14-day quarantine.
  • Polish authorities introduced summer traffic restrictions for vehicles over 12 tonnes. Restrictions will be in place until August 30.
  • Road transport within India is limited and capacity remains tight.

United States of America Domestic Trucking Overview – Updated 06.30.2020 

The US dry van truck segment has recovered and surpassed pre-COVID levels. The refrigerated and flatbed segments have recovered 91.5% and 79.4% respectively.  

  • Rates within most US markets are currently at normal or below normal levels however areas that may see an increase are:
    • Loads with the origin of Nevada, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, Nebraska, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, New York, Delaware and Connecticut.
    • Loads with the destination of Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.
