Coronavirus Update - June 24

Allyn International is committed to providing you with the latest updates during this very fluid and ever-changing period. Our goal with the information provided below is to give you at a high-level, a current overview of the most heavily impacted regions.  

With that in mind, we have decided to adjust the format of the following information so it remains beneficial to its readers while we continue to monitor and report the impact COVID-19 has on the logistics industry.  

Global Air Updates 

  • India is considering a “bilateral bubble arrangement” allowing international passenger flights to and from India with countries that allow access to its citizens and vice versa. A decision is expected in the next couple of weeks.
  • Beijing airports have implemented new safety measures for processing imports; delays are likely.

 

Global Ocean Updates

  • Two dozen blank sailings are scheduled for July and August creating capacity shortages and spot rate increases globally.
  • To avoid paying the Suez Canal fee, some carriers are rerouting vessels around the Cape of Good Hope adding 5 – 7 days of transit time.
  • Peak Season surcharges of $200-$350 per container continue to be charged by carriers.

Global Road Transport Updates 

  • Driver availability for shipments to/from Beijing is limited due to a recommended 14-day quarantine.
  • Road transport within India is limited and capacity is tight.
  • UAE land borders with Bahrain, Jordan and Kuwait are closed for all non-essential items while borders between UAE and Oman and Saudi Arabia are open with additional safety measures.

United States of America Domestic Trucking Overview – Updated 06.23.2020 

Since bottoming out in week 16, total US truck spot rates continue to recover. The broker-posted per mile (excluding fuel surcharges) is about 1.5% below 2019 levels.  

  • Rates within most US markets are currently at normal or below normal levels however areas that may see an increase are:

Loads with the origin of Oregon, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming and Delaware.
