Coronavirus Update - July 7

Many countries are seeing a second wave of COVID-19 infections, which is causing reinstatement of safety measures and halting of reopening plans. Most notably, Australia reinstated lockdown measures in Melbourne for 6-weeks. It is important to continue securing your transport needs as soon as possible, including confirmation from your carriers.

Global Air Updates

  • The Australia Government is injecting $166.4 million into an emergency logistics program aimed at helping exporters of high-value, perishable products secure scarce airfreight capacity
  • The Philippines will reopen terminals, which will expand service from Japan and other countries
  • Unusual rate surges and volatility on intra-Asian lanes from capacity reductions
  • DHL added additional freighter capacity to intra-Asia and US-EU trade lanes

Global Ocean Updates

  • China-US ocean rates leveled off this week after a month-long tear and carriers blanked fewer sailings and restored some of the cancellations
  • Carriers announced very few cancellations for July and August, with Hapag-Lloyd even reinstating five sailings to the US West Coast and Pacific Northwest in July
  • Sea-Intelligence Maritime Analysis data show Asia-Europe trades will cancel 75 sailings through September in a bid to match capacity with weak anticipated volume levels

Global Road Transport Updates

  • UK - some area of Leicestershire has been locked down following a surge in Coronavirus cases
  • Only Saudi resident drivers with Saudi registered vehicles are allowed to bring back loads from UAE
  • India - LTL, FTL and Trailer Movements are impacted due to shortage of drivers resulting from COVID-19, which has caused a huge volatility in the market
  • US continuing to show signs of recovery with an increase in truckload shipments

United States of America Domestic Trucking Overview – Updated 07.07.2020
The US dry van truck segment has recovered and surpassed pre-COVID levels. The refrigerated and flatbed segments have recovered 131.3% and 103.7% respectively.

  • Rates within most US markets are currently at normal or below normal levels however areas that may see an increase are:
    • Loads with the origin of Nevada, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, Nebraska, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, New York, Delaware, Maine and Connecticut.
    • Loads with the destination of Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Missouri, Arkansas, Delaware and Connecticut.
