China Eastern Airlines Accelerates Efforts to Build a Modern Aviation Logistics Team

While the COVID-19 pandemic has hit the global civil aviation industry, it has also exposed many of the "shortcomings" of China's aviation logistics. How can the world’s second-largest country get rid of the long-term "heavy passenger light goods?” How can they accelerate the creation of an air freight “national team” such as FedEx, UPS, or DHL?

Liu Shaoyong, chairman of China Eastern Airlines Group, believes that in the future, aviation logistics will shift to a higher value, faster distribution, and smarter way to achieve more quality and efficient transportation. The most critical step for China's aviation logistics industry is to build a world-class aviation logistics enterprise with global competitiveness.

After years of practice, China Eastern Logistics is undoubtedly one of the teams closest to this goal. Under the test of the pandemic, the reform and development goals of China Eastern Logistics are more firm and urgent.

Currently, China Eastern Logistics is making full use of its all-cargo planes, passenger cabin belly and "passenger to cargo" capacity to achieve global access to all kinds of materials. According to the planned deployment of China Eastern at the beginning of the year, China Eastern Logistics, as the "first sample" of mixed-ownership reform in the civil aviation field, is actively promoting the listing, and its international air cargo capacity is bound to be further improved in the future.

With the changes caused by the global pandemic, China Eastern Logistics is always adjusting the direction of shipping capacity and the focus of freight: at the early stage of the spread of the pandemic, the domestic manufacturing industry has been almost completely stagnated, and the export source of goods has been dramatically reduced, but the domestic pandemic prevention materials are in short supply. Emphasis will be placed on waypoints with relatively sufficient backhaul non-pandemic cargo sources; but as China basically controls the epidemic situation and gradually resumes production, China Eastern Logistics will continue to increase the capacity input of each route according to market demand, and at the same time restore some of the grounded cargo aircraft waypoints; the current with the spread of the epidemic overseas, China has become the world's most important source of non-pandemic materials exports. China Eastern Logistics has fully opened up its firepower to meet the needs of re-initiated and re-produced products made in China, and deliver urgently needed non-pandemic materials to all over the world.
