Amazon’s Biggest Layoff and Biggest Production of Robots!

Amazon Plans on letting go of at least 10,000 of its employees. This layoff will be their largest layoff yet. These cuts will primarily affect people in their device's organization. This is partly because most of their devices, Including Alexa, need to sell. There will be a minor set of cuts in their retail division, including but not limited to online shopping, physical retail, and a chunk of their firm's logistics team. The new CEO is clearly on a mission to save money because Amazon has had a very disappointing third quarter. These cuts are not surprising, as Amazon has paused their hiring since September of last year. What is surprising though, is the fact that they will be making these cuts around the busiest time of the year. The only part of Amazon that will not be affected by these cuts is the Hourly workers who make up the bulk of the company. Amazon would like to give those workers a higher skilled job like mechatronics or software engineering and leave the demanding and repetitive tasks to the robots. This part of the company will be getting a lot of help within the next 2 years as Amazon rolls out new robots that will do almost all if not all the sorting of packages. These robots are named Sparrow. These robots can dig into a container with a bunch of loose products and recognize the ones that are damaged and get rid of them whilst organizing the ones that need to be packaged up and sent out. Sparrows can recognize about 75% of the products that Amazon has in its inventory right now. This will be a huge leap forward for Amazon seeing as their turnover rate for their hourly employees is nearly 100 percent.
