Coronavirus Update - April 3

Americas

  • Cargo terminals at the JFK airport are experiencing transit delays due to staff reductions.
  • Southwest Airlines has announced they will allow freight forwarders and cargo customers to rent their airplanes.
  • Cross-border road freight will experience slight delays.
  • Brazilian border delays due to the customs clearance procedures.

United States – 258,214 confirmed cases (74% increase since Monday), 9,408 recovered, 6,605 deaths

EMEA

  • Expect major disruptions in Spain due to government restrictions on non-essential businesses.
  • Due to congestion, Intra-EU cross-border delays of up to 24 hours are likely.
  • European airport hubs are fully operational and are experiencing little to no delays processing freight.
  • Overall decrease in exports, whereas import volumes remain stable. Imports from China are at an all-time high.

Italy – 119,827 confirmed cases (22% increase since Monday), 19,758 recovered, 14,681 deaths
Spain – 117,710 confirmed cases (38% increase since Monday), 30,513 recovered, 10,935 deaths
Germany – 89,838 confirmed cases (41% increase since Monday), 24,575 recovered, 1,230 deaths
France – 59,948 confirmed cases (33% increase since Tuesday), 12,555 recovered, 5,398 deaths

APAC

  • Japan expanded the restrictions on the entry of foreigners into the country beginning April 3.
  • Airfreight in India remains operational for both exports and imports. Delays of 1-2 days expected due to congestion and backlog.
  • Indian truck drivers are required to carry proper documentation to transport goods during the shutdown. Possible penalties or the seizure of vehicles could occur if the drivers are not compliant with documentation requirements.
  • Ground transport in Japan, Korea, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand will likely experience delays.
  • Exporting factories have requested the Indian government to allow production with partial staff and enhanced sanitation efforts.
  • The Port of Wuhan reopened for business after being closed for two-months. The Wuhan Tianhe International airport is scheduled to reopen April 8.

China
• 82,509 confirmed cases (0.3% increase since Monday), 76,760 recovered, 3,326 deaths

Middle East and Africa

  • The transport of non-essential goods will resume at South African ports after reducing services in the past week.
  • Emirates is relocating all cargo operations to Dubai International Airport.
  • Turkmenistan suspends all freight transport through its territory for the entire month of April. As of now, there are no exemptions.
  • The Iranian government has banned the export of face masks and ordered factories to increase production.

Iran

  • 53,183 confirmed cases (28% increase since Monday), 17,935 recovered, 3,294 deaths

Air Cargo Transport – Updated 4.03.2020

  • Cargo-only flights are being added to carrier networks to assist with the mismatch of supply and demand
  • Price increases are expected to continue until mid-April

*Aircraft from mainland China or South Korea will be limited to Tokyo Narita (NRT) and Osaka Kansai (KIX) international airports. Restrictions apply until
at least the end of April.
** Atlanta and New York City airports are operational for cargo, but staffing reductions are impacting efficiency. No freighters are flying in Denver as a
result of state government restrictions.
*** Restricted operations in India are impacting cargo flights; freighters are operating with reduced capacity.

Road and Rail Transport – Updated 04.03.2020
• Possible trucking delays to South East Asia as a result of temporary border closures. Food and medical essentials are not restricted but may be delayed due to border congestion.
