Australia Takes Measures to Stop Stink Bugs
Due to several detections within the last year, the Australian Department of Agriculture and Water Resources has introduced import measures to manage the risk of Brown Marmorated Stink Bugs (BMSB). These measures are seasonal and will cover ocean imports during the period that is deemed the high-risk season (Sept 1, 2018 until April 30, 2019).
The type of goods and the country the shipment originates in are the determining factors in whether treatment of goods is needed.
High Risk Goods: Goods listed below require mandatory treatment.

Target Risk Countries: Goods from the following countries are considered at risk.
United States of America
Italy
Germany
France
Russia
Greece
Hungary
Romania
Georgia
Japan (heightened vessel surveillance will be the only measure applied).
Treatment Method
Goods (not just wood packing material) require heat treatment, Methyl bromide fumigation, or Sulfuryl fluoride fumigation
Mandatory offshore (prior to arrival in Australia) treatment of high risk goods shipped as break bulk, in open top containers, or on flat racks
Mandatory offshore or onshore (upon arrival in Australia) treatment of high risk goods shipped in containers
If goods requiring offshore treatment arrive untreated they will be subject to export or destruction
Random inspections of goods after treatment will occur.
